    UPDATE ON JULY 15, 2010:
I played around with some of the CSS options for this theme. They were fairly straight-forward. However, I haven’t found an option to delete Mr. Einstein and the box that surrounds him. I was able to get rid of the annoying disclaimer box and set the default theme to something that really does display a pencil icon — which is important when I say, “Please click the Pencil icon ….”

I’m still playing around, a bit, but I want to go back to researching saxy things, not computerese.

MORE UPDATE ON JULY 14, 2010:
I went back to the theme that did have all the options. A very quick run-down:

  • The menu at the bottom of the page is actually more based on Ubuntu, not Windows :).
  • Unfortunately, this theme does not have the nice “increase text size” selector that my old one did. In most browsers, if you want to increase the text size, hit Control+ or Command+ (Mac users).
  • To change the colors and background, click that “pencil” icon in the lower left corner of the screen and then go to “Change Theme”.
  • Please note that there are some things that I haven’t yet tweaked. If you spot something not working, feel free to post here!

    UPDATE ON JULY 14, 2010:
So, it looks a lot different, doesn’t it?

There was a problem with the theme I was using that caused the sidebars to go nuts. I found this theme, which has a bunch of user-selectable options, and I plan on keeping it for at least a little while, while I try to determine what happened to the original theme.

    UPDATE ON JULY 9, 2010:

Yes, I actually do think about it :).

When I first started this blog, I spent a bit of time looking around and eventually settled on the theme (the combination of colors and fonts) you currently see.  This theme’s name is Red Evo Aphelion 1.0.4 and I like it a lot, except for, well, a couple things: the “Recent Posts/Comments” widgets, which are now at the extreme bottom of the page, don’t show up right in the sidebars.  Another problem is that some of the elements displayed, like the bullets for bullet points, don’t show up properly in all browsers.  The final problem is that this theme is designed for WordPress (that’s the software that this blog runs on) version 2.x and I now have WordPress 3.x.

So, I spent some time looking around yesterday.  I was unable to find a theme that satisfies ALL of the following:

  • Fluid (flexible) width.  (This is my main requirement.)
  • Three columns or less.
  • Non-butt-ugly colors.  (This is my secondary requirement.)
  • Widget to allow users to change the font size. (Not that difficult to add, but I now use a blog because I wanted to do LESS coding and more research.)
  • Free.  (I haven’t gotten any donations in a long while.)
  • I did do some housekeeping, yesterday and today, and moved some elements around and added a couple things.  However, if you’ve got a theme you’d like me to try, drop me a line in this post or via e-mail at thesaxinfo@gmail.com.
